Administrative and Regulatory Law
The Costa Rican public sector is big and complex. Government intervention reaches practically all business areas and accompanies firms right from their incorporation and throughout most of their operations.
Our firm assists companies in safely navigating the Costa Rican regulatory waters, in order to fully comply with the national legislation and avoid unnecessary sanctions and penalties, both when commencing operations (municipal patent, Ministry of Health, Costa Rican Social Security Administration, National Environmental Technical Secretariat, Shareholders Registration before BCCR (Central Bank of Costa Rica), National Insurance Institute, among other institutions, depending on the sector and activity they are dedicated to) as well as on their day-to-day activities (customs procedures, export procedures, regulation of public utilities, etc.). We can also assist in government procurement procedures, public works tenders and other types of public private partnerships.
If required, we also advice and represent companies in administrative proceedings initiated ex officio or at the request of our clients in order to ensure full respect of the legal system and defend the legitimate rights and interests of those we represent. Should the need arise, we can also advice and represent our clients in judicial proceedings.
We understand our clients’ need for a comprehensive service covering all angles that might impact or affect their actions and businesses in Costa Rica. The Administrative Law practice area has been conceived and trained to render this service under the conditions the private sector requires.
Our advice is also sought by top level government officials to assit them on public projects and programs, public private partnerships (PPP), legal regulation optimization, paperwork reduction, drafting of bills, advisory on public investment programs and relations with multilateral organizations. As a result, the experience and knowledge of the practice group is always up to date and it has earned an excellent and honorable reputation both in the public and private sector, including private sector organizations, some of which we are active members of.
